Two in a Row for Quantum Rally Sport
Twin brothers Josh and Jeremy Wimpey claimed their second victory in a row on March 31 at the grueling Rally New York USA in Narrowsburg, New York. The event included a demanding itinerary with 20 stages of racing beginning at dawn and ending well after sunset. Hundreds of spectators lined up along the stages to watch the drama of the difficult stages unfold. Rally New York (www.rallynewyork.com) is the second points-earning event in the 2007 United States Rally Championship (USRC).

Only two weeks prior to the rally, nearly twenty inches of snow blanketed the area. Luckily, most of the snow was gone in time for the race, but the storm had left the morning’s tarmac stages with heavily sanded shoulders and intersections, making it all the more imperative that teams maintain very precise lines on the road. Driver Josh Wimpey commented, “When you’re pushing hard on these stages, there is such a small margin for error. With all this sand on the tarmac, you really have to keep it tidy because there is very little grip if you are even just a few inches off line.”
The stages proved unforgiving right from the start by claiming several formidable crews, including Seamus Burke, whose Mitsubishi Evo was sidelined with electrical problems after the first stages, and Burak Tuglu when he was caught out by some icy remnants on Stage 1 and rolled his Ford Focus.

Meanwhile, the Wimpey’s started 15th on the road but dominated the 2wd field by immediately winning the first four stages of the day. In a fashion reminiscent of their win at SandBlast rally six weeks ago, the duo continued to set the bar all day long with a string of 20 2wd stage wins and many top 5 overall stage times. Despite challenges from several quick 2wd teams, the brothers of Quantum Rally Sport finished 1st in two-wheel drive in their VW GTi and an amazing 4th overall in the event, ahead of all but three of the high horsepower 4wd entrants.
Teams found that the afternoon’s gravel stages were rough, rutted, and wet with plenty of standing water and several very icy turns in the wake of the late winter snowfall. Competitors agreed that the sections of the gravel stages were treacherously rough with lots of opportunities to lose the rally. Josh and Jeremy maintained a smart but quick pace to solidify their 2wd lead while continuing to challenge the 4wd machinery at the front of the pack.

Once again servicing for the Wimpey team was Delta-V Motorsports ( www.deltavmotorsports.com ), whose prep work helped ensure that the car needed little more than fuel and window washing throughout the day. Quantum Rally Sport is proud to continue a partnership with Delta-V Motorsports and is excited to have also joined forces with NGP Racing of Aberdeen, MD ( www.ngpracing.com ), Victory By Design Graphics www.VBDgraphics.com , and L and E Fabrication ( www.LandEFab.com ).
